India, captained by Virat Kohli, is in South Africa for three Tests and an equal number of One-Day Internationals, which begin on December 26 in Centurion. However, relations between Indian Test captain Virat Kohli and the BCCI, which is managed by Sourav Ganguly, are not at their best. Fans speculated whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were on good terms after the BCCI announced Rohit Sharma as the next limited-overs skipper, succeeding Kohli.
While Kohli dismissed all rumors of a rupture with Hitman, he denied having any formal communication with the BCCI prior to his ODI dismissal and refuted Ganguly’s statement about him resigning as T20I captain. Ganguly claimed that he spoke with Kohli and tried to persuade him to keep the tweet in its simplest form, but Kohli refused.
In a recent press conference, Kohli flatly denied having had such a conversation with Ganguly. As a result, the Ganguly-led BCCI’s relationship with Kohli is far from perfect. In the past, however, this was not the case. Ganguly praised Kohli in 2016, calling him “one of my favorite leaders.”
“Virat is one of my favorite captains at the moment,” Ganguly stated at a promotional event for a steel firm in 2016. “He’s a fantastic player. He has done marvels for the country throughout his brief time. Someone who, when I see him on the field, with his energy, battling spirit, and will to win, raises the worth of Indian cricket.”
