Lionel Messi and football go hand in hand, and many children aspire to acquire Messi’s talents. The Argentinian great isn’t always flashy with his moves, but his ball skills are unsurpassed.
You’ve come to the correct place if you want to learn how to dribble like Messi and perform some of the smart tricks he employs in games. The next article will go through some of Messi’s most useful skills, as well as when and how to employ them.
1. The Lift
How to do it – This is the most basic of talents, yet if timed perfectly, it can be really effective. Slow down and position your foot at the base of the ball when an opponent glides in front of you to stop you. To avoid the tackle, pick it up from the floor and hop over your opponent.
2. Chop Cut
How to accomplish it: Chop the ball with rapid action, making touch closer to the toe, rather than pushing it with the outside of your foot to alter direction. This allows the ball to move faster than usual while also allowing for faster direction changes. It does, however, take some getting used to.
3. Stop and Turn
When an opponent tightens up in front of you and tries to go past you in the direction you’re dribbling, use your body to cover the ball. Control the ball with your instep to come to a halt. To change directions, spin around while protecting the ball from your marker and push the ball away with your instep.
