The Army held the first-ever women’s bike rally in Baramulla, Kashmir, on Sunday.
The rally covered 65 kilometres, beginning at Shawkat Ali Stadium in Baramulla and ending at Kaman Post in Uri. The event drew a total of 82 women from across the country.
“We had got a request from the women of Kashmir to hold a cycling rally solely for women,” Lieutenant General Pandey told the journalists.
“We were getting registrations from all across the country,” he explained, “and we had to close the registrations after 82 entries because it was getting too many for us to handle.”
Officials claim that 50 of the 82 entries were from Kashmir.
Milind Soman, a model, and actor who attended the event, remarked that such initiatives inspire women to engage.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the Indian Army for taking this action. From Baramulla to Kaman Post, the entire drive was breathtaking,” Soman stated.
“In the future, more activities like this should be arranged because sports can help people live a healthier lifestyle,” he added.
“I only found out about the event on Saturday and I didn’t even have prior cycling experience, but I still came and stood first,” Zobia, a resident of Lal Bazaar, said of her victory in the bike rally.
The Army was praised by all of the participants for organizing the event. (ANI)
