Jemimah Rodrigues extended her hot streak with a spectacular half-century for the Trailblazers at the MCA Stadium in Pune. With the Trailblazers in a must-win situation, Rodrigues stepped up to form an excellent combination with S Meghana, putting her team on track for a big total. Jemimah Rodrigues, who was left out of the Women’s World Cup squad earlier this year, provided a timely reminder of her abilities with a spectacular half-century in the Women’s T20 challenge’s third game.

Rodrigues came in after skipper Smriti Mandhana was dismissed early and formed a strong partnership with newcomer Sabhineni Meghana to put the Trailblazers ahead in a must-win game. The 21-year-old put on a 113-run stand with Meghana on his way to a brilliant half-century. Rodrigues ended up scoring 66 off just 44 balls, slamming seven fours and a six at a strike rate of 150. In the build-up to the Women’s T20 challenge, the Mumbai batter was in fine form, scoring well in the home T20I competition for Women.

Rodrigues will be eager to prove her worth after being overlooked for the World Cup earlier this year, but performances like the one she put in on Thursday should almost guarantee her a place in India’s squad when they travel to Sri Lanka and England later this year. With the Commonwealth Games and the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the 21-year-old is also seen as a key T20 player.
