After the loss in the first test match against Australia, India’s situation looked even worse as India’s best batsman and captain, Virat Kohli left for India on his paternal leave. India became all out for mere 36 runs during the second innings of the first test match. However, in Virat Kohli’s absence, Ajinkya Rahane took the place of the captain and led team India in the second test match.
He lost the toss as Australia won the toss and elected to bat. Indian bowlers led by Bumrah and Ashwin performed well as they managed to stop Australia at just 195 runs. Rahane did a splendid job by using all the bowlers perfectly. He made sure that the debutant Mohammad Siraj got plenty of time to get settled and did not lose his cool when Siraj made any mistakes. He backed to throughout both innings like a good captain always world.
During the Indian batting, another debutant named Shubhman Gill performed significantly well and gave India a solid start. He scored 45 in 65 deliveries and looked well in control of his shots. Later came in captain Rahane and handled the middle-order batting for team India. He stood his ground until the very end and made a crucial partnership with each batsman even if it consists of fewer runs. He then made a slid partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Rahane played a captain’s knock as he scored a century and gave India a solid lead. He scored 112 runs in 223 balls.
However, that’s not where his part ended. He and his team had to defend the lead they had gained and stop Australia from scoring lot of runs in the second inning. They did the same as they stopped Australia at just 200 runs leaving India to make only 70 runs to win. Rahane a good knock in the second inning as well and won the second test match for India.
