India is still struggling in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the second wave of novel coronavirus has hit the country hard. COVID-19 cases are increasing day by day. The virus has also affected IPL. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 for the time being amid the increasing Covid-19 crisis in the country. A total of 29 out of the scheduled 56 league games were played this season. The last match played this season was between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on May 2.

The match on Monday between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore was postponed after COVID-19 cases in the KKR camp. Two Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a CSK travel team support staff member were among those who tested positive for the virus. As per IPL protocol, CSK squad was put in isolation.

Later, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra also tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Devdutt Padikkal was in quarantine at his home in Bengaluru after testing positive for Covid-19 on March 22. He has since joined the RCB camp after testing negative for COVID-19. “He’s healthy, feeling better and raring to go,” said RCB in a tweet.

We wish them all a speedy recovery!
