Former test captain of the Australian team Michael Clarke said on Big Sports Breakfast that Australian cricket went through a phase when players were too scared to sledge Indian cricketers. He stated that the reason being that it could jeopardise their contracts in the Indian Premier League. The players feared to sledge Indian cricketers because they had to play under them in the IPL and each one wanted to be picked as they could make million dollars in a matter of six weeks.
Michael Clarke said almost every team is kind of scared because everybody knows how powerful India is in regards to the financial part of the game, internationally or domestically with the IPL. According to Clarke, this behaviour eroded the ruthless nature that had characterised Australian cricket teams for decades. Well, even if every single player from the Australian cricket team denies anything like that happening, the fact that a former Australian captain feels this way, shows exactly how powerful India and the Indian cricket board has become globally.
