Gautam Gambhir’s ‘revenue share’ advice to BCCI leaves internet divided

The governing body of cricket in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has also made a big influence on boosting the game to a whole new level.

Every year, the BCCI, the strongest cricket organisation in the world, earns billions of rupees from the sale of broadcast rights such as tv revenue. And with that, cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir provided the board with a wild piece of advice that shook the internet.

Discover some of the responses that Twitter users have led by reading below:

Gautam Gambhir said, at the TURF2022 & India Sports Awards of FICCI, “If it’s up to me, probably the BCCI should also go on and give 50 per cent of revenue to all other Olympic sports, but it’s not up to me. Because 50 per cent of revenue that is generated out of cricket is enough for cricketers. But the rest of the 50 per cent can actually pick up all the other sports,” as quoted by Men XP.

Soon after his crazy advice to the BCCI, which went viral on the internet, the netizens got divided on their Twitter handles, prompting their own opinions.

A user wrote, “He’s right, the money BCCI earns is WAY WAY WAY TOO MUCH, should not be any problem but that in an ideal world.”

Another commented, “Yes. And this can be a sort of loan to other sports bodies. BCCI can spend 500cr on anything they want without a thought. Some of the other sports would get an incredible boost if they’re handed 50cr. At the end of the day, these are all Indian sports institutions.”

A third user wrote, “I’m tired of these clowns criticizing cricket for everything. If other sports grow, they have to do it on their own, organically. Have you ever seen Spain, Brazil or Germany criticize football for other sports?”

A fourth one wrote, “But why should @BCCI do that !! They have created their own revenue! The rest of the associations should learn”
