When people say Premier League is one of the finest leagues around the world, they aren’t wrong. Since its inception in the year 1992, the Premier League has given us some iconic moments. Let’s see some of the finest moments this prestigious tournament has given to its fans:
1- David Beckham’s Incredible Goal
The year 1996, the young English sensation David Beckham shocks the entire world with his amazing goal from half-line. Representing Manchester United, David Beckham sees Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan off his line and decides to take a chance. Who would have thought that one chance would create history and would still remain fresh in the minds of fans even after 25 long years?
2-Arsenal’s invincible season
Managed by the legendary Frenchman, Arsene Wenger, Arsenal went unbeaten 2003/04 Premier League season. Arsenal back then were considered a very strong team with players such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Ashley Cole, Patrick Vieira, Robert Piers, Sol Campbell and so on. The last team to do so was Preston in the year 1899.
3- Chelsea’s maiden Premier League Title
It was 2004, when Chelsea appointed Jose Mourinho, who was known as the ‘Special One’ after he won the Champions League with underdogs FC Porto. Chelsea Football Club was undergoing a transition back then and who better than Jose to take charge of that. The decision proved a masterstroke as Chelsea won the season with 95 points and claiming 25 clean sheets while conceding only 6 goals at home where half the matches are played.
4- Sergio Aguero’s Goal
None of the Manchester fans can forget ‘that goal’ from the legendary Sergio Aguero. By Manchester fans I mean both Manchester United and Manchester City fans.
This is 2011/12 season, Manchester United had won their last game, and the title win was hanging on the Manchester City vs QPR game, where a win to Manchester City would hand them the title despite being on equal points (Man City had a higher goal difference). The scores were levelled but the Aguero magic was yet to happen. Deep down in stoppage time, the Argentinean scored which handed City their maiden Premier League title and this moment found itself in the history books.
5- The Iconic Gerrard Slip
Not a memory which the Liverpool fans would particularly want to remember. Season 2013/14, Liverpool were on an excellent run with 11 consecutive wins before Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea arrived at Anfield. Inside his own half, Gerrard slipped, which gave the ball possession to Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka who took advantage of the opportunity and converted the shot into goal. This incident is famously regarded as the ‘Gerrard Slip’ and still haunts the Liverpool fans. Due to this, the team lost its momentum which ultimately led the title to slip away
