Indian Premier League is all set to begin its 13th season in March 2020. It is the most-attended cricket league in the world. It is a platform for budding cricketers to show their talent and make their way to the Indian Cricket Team, a dream of every Indian cricketer. Well IPL has brought us many talented cricketers in the Indian Team but for some players, it was the end of their cricket career. Let’s have a look at few.
Jasprit Bumrah is now the No.1 ODI bowler in the world and India’s biggest strike bowler, but it all began six years ago when Mumbai fielded this curious talent with an unorthodox action for two matches. He built his reputation the next year, with some excellent death bowling, overseen by the yorker-specialist Lasith Malinga and secured his place in the Indian Cricket Team.
One of the more recent beneficiaries of the Indian Premier League has to be Hardik Pandya. The fact that India was trying so hard to find a pace-bowling all-rounder did help Pandya’s cause but he also backed it up with good performances, especially with the bat.
Ravindra Jadeja’s good form with Chennai Super Kings helped him take forward his career in the Indian Cricket Team as he became an effective all-rounder.
On the contrary, Rahul Sharma was one of the most economical bowlers during the 5th and 6th edition of the IPL. However, after that, he wasn’t able to make much of an impact and was subsequently dropped by selectors and IPL franchises. Sharma has found no takers since the 8th edition of the IPL. His last T20 was in 2014 while his international career was over even before that.
Dinesh Karthik who played for Delhi Daredevils in 2014 had an average season and was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL auction 2015. RCB left everyone stunned after buying him for Rs 10.5 crore in the auctions. Although he was excellent behind the stumps, he fared poorly with the bat and although he is a part of Indian Cricket Team. Dinesh Karthik failed to be regular in international matches as well due to his poor performance.
Although IPL has got us some eminent players, majority of cricketers had to end their dream of being a cricketer in the National Team due to poor performance in IPL.
