Cricket is a sport that has been played for almost 180 years. In 1844, the first game was played between the United States and Canada. The first Test match was played in 1877 between Australia and England. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the governing body of the sport. The ICC has a total of 104 member countries. There are 92 associate member countries and 12 full member countries.
Consider how many countries do not participate in cricket. The British are usually thought to have given the game of cricket to the rest of the globe. As a result, the sport is most popular in countries that the British once controlled. Australia, India, and South Africa were all under colonial rule at one time or another. This is why these countries have such a strong affinity for the sport. Russia, China, Switzerland, Japan, and France, on the other hand, have never taken the game seriously.
Their refusal to follow the sport stems from their perception that cricket is a colonial sport. As a result, with the exception of England, no European country is a strong cricketing force in the world.
