Matthew Wade Or Shikhar Dhawan: Who Is The Most Consistent Opener?

From India’s tour of Australia, we have already concluded with the ODI results which went in the favour of the host with a lead of 2-1 and the T20I going in favour of the visitors with a lead of 2-1 as well. Mathew Wade wasn’t in the playing 11 for any of the ODIs however Shikhar Dhawan was and he performed well in it. After winning the ODI series with ease against India, Australia seemed very confident and prepared for the T20 series. However, India dominated the T20 series and won it by 2-1.

In the first match, Mathew Wade played at number 6 and fell in the trap of Chahal and gave a cath to Captain Kohli. In the second T20, he played as an opener and scored a stunning 38 ball 52 and gave a solid start to Australia. Similarly in the 3rd T20, Wade scored 80 from 53 balls which became an important part in their win at a high strike rate of 150+.

Shikhar Dhawan after a slow touch in ODI played a good role in the T20s. He lost his wicket in the first T20 scoring only one run but came back strong in the 2nd match and scored 52 from 36. In the 3rd match, he scored 28 from 21 which saw the loss of India. Even though Wade managed to score better than Dhawan, Dhawan has continuously proved that he is more consistent as an opener than Wade. Dhawan has scored 17 ODI centuries till today and has become an irreplaceable left-handed opening batsman for India.
