Players Who Have Been Penalised In The IPL, Sanju Samson To Rohit Sharma

Take a look at captains who have been fined for maintaining slower over rates

For the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made certain regulation modifications (IPL). The soft signal will no longer be used, and the 3rd umpire will make the ultimate decision with the use of equipment, using his discretion. The much-debated Umpire’s Call regulation is set to remain in place. The short-run criteria had been changed as well. The third umpire will also have the authority to reverse the on-field umpire’s initial ruling in the short run. Another substantial shift is that each side will now be obliged to complete an IPL inning within 90 minutes. This also incorporates two-and-a-half-minute strategic time-outs.

According to the BCCI, the skipper of an IPL team would be charged INR 12 lakhs for the first infraction of slow over-rate. If the team commits the same mistake once more, the captain faces a fine of INR 24 lakhs. If the offense is committed a third time, the captain would not only be fined INR 30 lakhs but he will also be suspended for one IPL game. There have been numerous cases where captains have been significantly penalized for slow over-rate since the rule was adopted. Take a look at the IPL players who have been fined.

Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, and his teammates were fined for the team’s poor over-rate in a seven-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League 2021 game. Morgan was penalized Rs 24 lakh, while the remainder of his team XI was fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their individual game fee, per an official statement.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, was fined Rs. 12 lakh for sustaining a stagnant over-rate against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 encounter earlier this month. This is the 2nd time in the IPL that Rohit Sharma’s side has been penalized for a slow over-rate.

Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals were fined during the IPL 2021 after maintaining a sluggish over rate throughout their match versus Delhi Capitals on September 25 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 24 lakhs for the team’s second violation of the tournament under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to mandatory over rate offences. The remaining members of the playing XI were penalized the lesser of Rs 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fee.

Kane Williamson

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakh after his team failed against Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match in Pune due to a slow over-rate. In a one-sided match played at the MCA stadium in Pune, SRH was defeated by RR by 61 runs.
