The concept of cricket came to India in the 1800s. Since then, India has loved the sport and it is now one of the most popular sports in India. The Britishers were responsible for introducing the sport after their colonization. India played it’s the very first match in history in 1932, at Lord’s. India won its first Test match after two decades, in 1952. The team was growing and gradually became one of the strongest cricket teams in the world during the 1970s when Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath became a part of it.

India also became a part of the One Day International (ODI) series in the 1970s. It emerged rapidly among all the elite cricket teams after some brilliant cricketers like Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri joined the team. The Indian national team saw its first ICC World Cup trophy in 1983, under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The squad rose with power, when more such amazing and strong players joined the team, like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Saurav Ganguly during the 1990s. The status of the Indian cricket team improved at the global level and gave tough competition to the other teams. After Saurav Ganguly’s captaincy, India saw a great change, and many greater players were added. In the 2000s, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, and many more excellent cricketers became a part of the Indian national cricket team. Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, India witnessed several wins, including the second ICC World Cup win in 2011.

Till the date, the Indian national cricket team is considered to be one of the strongest and successful teams in the world. It has got a great set of players currently, from batsmen to bowlers and then all-rounders. The Indian cricket fans have got high hopes from the team, and so has the team never disappointed them.
