The 3rd India v/s Australia test took place on the Sydney Cricket Ground and what astonished us was our very own Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant who had a record-breaking day as he performed an appalling knock of scoring a 97. India was set to a total of 407 runs to win the Test.
India faced a difficult situation at 102 for 3, and that’s when the 23-year-old wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant decided to take on the Australian bowlers and make India proud. Pant had suffered from an injury in his elbow in the first innings and despite that, he was promoted to batting ahead of Hanuma Vihari.
This decision taken by the team management proved to be fruitful as Rishabh Pant battled through his pain and gave us an opportunity at his impressive game. The Rishabh Pant 97 knock was studded with twelve fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 82.20. Pant was in a notable mood against off-spinner Nathan Lyon as he stroked consecutive sixes. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old Rishabh Pant fell short of 3 runs for a century as he got out at 97 and missed the chance for us to experience what would have been a heart-warming memorable hundred. However, Rishabh Pant did manage to break a few records and the Twitterati named him left-handed Virender Sehwag! Here are a few records he broke and let’s take a look at them.
#1 First wicket-keeper from Asia to achieve 500 Test runs in Australia
The Haridwar born cricketer is also the first Asian wicket-keeper-batsman to have scored 500 runs in Australia leaving behind the earlier record holders of India- Syed and MS Dhoni.
#2 Youngest wicket-keeper to score 50-plus runs in a Test in Australia
The 23-year-old Rishabh Pant is now the youngest wicket-keeper to score 50-plus runs in the fourth innings of a Test in Australia.
#3 Fastest visiting wicket-keeper
Rishabh Pant became the fastest visiting wicket-keeper to score 500 runs in Tests in Australia breaking the records of former West Indian wicket-keeper-batsman Jeffrey Dujon.
