Rohit Sharma Controversy: Rohit Sharma, India’s vice-captain in the short overs format, has been in brilliant form of late. The 32-year-old grabbed headlines with his outstanding efforts at the 2019 World Cup, scoring 648 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 81.00.
Rohit Sharma has set some world-class records in one-day internationals, whether it’s five centuries in a World Cup or the most sixes in ODIs for India. However, the Indian vice-captain is well-known not just for his deeds on the cricket field, but also for his antics on social media. Through his acts on several social media profiles, the 32-year-old has frequently landed himself in controversies:
During India’s 2018 tour of England, the Indian team made a visit to the Indian High Commissioner in London. The entire squad presented the commissioner with a frame and uploaded photos on Twitter. However, Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli’s wife, was also featured in the photo, which irritated the Twitteratis. Many people were upset because Anushka was in the centre of the picture and India’s test squad vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was somewhere behind her. Despite not being a member of that squad, Rohit Sharma liked a post, which ignited a social media firestorm.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma haven’t been the greatest of buddies, with the two being compared for their on-field performances. Following India’s painful loss in the World Cup 2019 semi-final, the two were at the centre of attention, with some experts urging Virat Kohli to stand aside as captain and make room for Rohit Sharma.
In the thick of it all, Rohit Sharma unfollowed Virat Kohli on Twitter, causing a great uproar at the moment. Rohit Sharma recently made waves for unfollowing Anushka Sharma on Instagram after unfollowing Virat Kohli. India’s vice-captain had previously followed the Bollywood actress on Instagram, but due to the disagreement between Virat and Rohit, the latter unfollowed her.
Rohit Sharma has been a vital part of India’s short-overs side, but the ODI team vice-captain hasn’t been able to cement his spot in the Test side due to limited appearances in that format. For the last two years, Indian batsman KL Rahul has been given consistent opportunities in Test cricket; yet, the 27-year-old player has not taken advantage of those possibilities. Both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were named for India’s West Indies trip, however, the former was chosen over the latter in both tests. KL Rahul had a decent test series, hitting 101 runs in four innings.
