Anurag Thakur was named as the new Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports this Wednesday, taking over from Kiren Rijiju. Thakur was the leader of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from May 2016 to February 2017. The 46-year-old was given the responsibility for sports along with the Information and Broadcasting service after he made a vow as a bureau server. “I am honored to serve the people of India as a Union Cabinet minister and take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Sh @narendramodi Ji for entrusting me with this responsibility,” this was the tweet from Anurag Thakur.

Thakur was the leader of the BCCI between May 2016 and February 2017. A Member of Parliament from HP’s Hamirpur electorate, Thakur was filling in as the clergyman of state for finance and corporate undertakings under Nirmala Sitharaman before Wednesday’s bureau reshuffle. His sibling Arun Dhumal is right now the financial officer of the BCCI. Thakur is among the six pastors who have been elevated to the bureau rank.
