The captain stepped on after the fall of Cheteshwar Pujara, he scored 44 runs off 132 balls keeping up the pace of the batting but later on was dismissed by the bowler Kyle Jamieson. The vice-captain of the team India, Ajinkya Rahane was about to have his 1st inning half-century but was stopped by the bowler Neil Wagner. The winner of the 1st innings was indeed Kyle Jamieson as he took a 5 wicket-haul against one of the toughest country teams.
