Given that he is now one of the world’s best batters, it is difficult to link Indian captain Virat Kohli with any other sport. However, the Indian captain recently acknowledged that if he had not excelled in cricket, he may have pursued a career in another sport. Kohli said to CNN News18 that badminton was another sport that was dear to his heart after cricket and that he might have been a professional shuttler.
When asked to name a sport other than cricket that he could have pursued professionally, Kohli had just one answer. “Badminton is most likely. My best friend competed at the state level in badminton. So I used to compete with him and learned a lot about the sport as a result,” Kohli, who recently turned 29, stated. When asked if he could compete on the same court as superstar shuttlers like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, and Kidambi Srikanth, Kohli responded yes.
“Of course, why not. Those are some incredible players. The goal is to get folks to come out and play. I’m not expecting them to play cricket, but rather to learn a certain sport professionally. It is a fundamental requirement for a child’s physical and mental wellbeing. People’s everyday lives have been taken over by technology, and they are not physically active, which is why health difficulties arise on a regular basis. We must strive to raise as much awareness about it as possible,” the Indian captain said. Kohli, who has converted himself into one of the world’s fittest sportsmen, also urged the children to participate in sports in order to increase their fitness levels.
