As India’s tour continues in Australia, for an international cricketing venture after a long COVID-19 break, it wouldn’t be an original capacity group going up against the Aussies. While Rohit Sharma wasn’t a part of the ODI and the T20I series, Virat Kohli is set to miss three of the four Tests as he has taken paternity leave.
Kohli will go home to his family after the initial Test, which closes on December 21. He has been allowed paternity leave by the BCCI to be with his spouse Anushka Sharma for the celebration of their first baby toward the beginning of January.
Kohli will be a major loss to India and hardly anyone can fill in his shoes. The batting side will be very vulnerable without him as only he has the ability to withstand the pace of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. He not only defends but also manages to attack the bowler if he bowls a loose ball. Apart from the batting side, he will be a major loss as a captain. Without him on the field, the captainship will fall in the hands of less experienced Shreyas or Rahul. While both of them are excellent batsmen, being a captain and managing a team at the international level is not an easy task.
The next loss will be to the fielding side. Everyone knows that Virat is an incredible fielder and his fitness is top class. Without him to protect the cover drives, it will be a tough job for bowlers to bowl. A piece of good news amidst this situation will be if Rohit Sharma makes a come back and take the role of the Captain. His addition to the team will cover all the missing holes to the team and it will give India a strong chance against the mighty Aussies.
