The humble smart speaker has come a long way in recent years. The Amazon Echo launched the smart speaker race in 2014, and since then, we’ve seen a slew of others, including the Google Home lineup, go on sale. Some people want a smart speaker in each room of their home, which can be costly if you buy full-sized speakers.
Smaller speakers, such as the Amazon Echo Dot and Google Home Mini, come in handy in this situation. The speakers don’t sound quite as good as their more expensive and larger counterparts, but they’re just as smart and a lot less expensive.
It’s not that one of these speakers is better than the other; it just depends on which smart ecosystem you’re already using. In general, the Amazon Echo Dot is probably the better option for most people, but if you have an Android phone and are heavily invested in Google’s ecosystem, the Google Home Mini may be a better option.
