Acid test for fan love will only come in my future project: Randeep Rai

Candid chat with Randeep Rai

I ignore my fans on social media: Randeep Rai

TV heartthrob Randeep Rai is on a well-deserved break after his super hit Sony teenage romance show Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai shut shop in Aug. His on-screen chemistry with co-star Ashi Singh was the talk of the online town.

“I am resting back home, recharging my batteries and will be back in Mumbai soon.”

Here, he deflected the question of season 2 of his show. “I can’t say if I have been approached or not. After season 1 ended, I told the makers that I needed some time off. Once I am back, let’s see what offers come on the table. At the end of the day, these things are not in my hand. It is the channel and production house (Shashi Sumeet Mittal Productions), who take the final call.”

What type of fresh stuff are you looking at?

“Any juicy projects that my audiences will appreciate. I don’t want to restrict myself to any genre/character, as this might harm my journey, which has just started. I have a long way to go before l sleep.”

Asked about fan love, he says, “I have reciprocated the same through my work. Having said that, I mostly ignore their social media posts, for if I started to do that, I would be doing nothing else. Anything in excess, whether good or bad, is not done. When there is too much clamour for engagement, I just put out a picture.”

“The acid test of fan love will only come in my future project. Unfortunately, TV popularity is very fickle. You are hailed only till your show is on air. Once it goes off air, you have to start afresh.”

He dismissed fan attempts to link him with Ashi. “Everybody has a different thought process, so I leave it at that.”

Would you be open to bold roles on the web? “A lot would depend on my role, the overall package and who the makers are. If it is a big brand, my answer would be different compared to that to a smaller unit. Also, I would need to see if the edgy element is required by the script.”

“I might even build my body if the role so demands.”

In closing, Randeep says that while he likes watching reality shows, “I don’t think I am ready for them yet.”
