As actors we were disappointed with the way Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali wound up: Piyush Sahdev

Piyush Sahdev is looking forward to his entry as Shekhawat in Zee TV show, Yeh Teri Galliyan.

Says Piyush, “The story has taken a six-year leap and now the female lead Asmita (Vrushika Mehta) is shown married with me and taking care of my son. He too loves and respects her and will not brook any wrong things said to her.”

“I really don’t know much about how the character will pan out as I am yet to get a detailed briefing.”

Piyush, who has often entered running shows (Pratigya and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke) says, “The biggest challenge is to convince their viewers who are used to watching one couple, to accept you with the lead girl. Many take it personally as well and end up saying a lot of rude stuff.”

“But luckily, I have been able to pull it off with élan, as I did in Beyhadh. I hope to get some love out here. Since Yeh Teri Galliyan is made by the same team (Cinevistaas Limited), it was like returning home. We are doing very well at the time slot.”

What do you feel about time leaps? “Well, they are needed to take the story forward, and I am sure that the makers and channel are confident in my abilities to take the show even higher.”

Piyush, who has been around TV for years (starting with Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai, back in 2007), is now very comfortable with the trade. “For once you know your job, things become much easier, which in turn lets you put in your 100%. Also, since you keep rubbing shoulders with actors and technicians with whom you have worked before, the bonding gets better as well.”

When asked about his last ill-fated Colors historical, Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali, where he played Abu Fazl, he says, “Not only me, all the actors (leads Shaheer Sheikh and Sonarika Bhadoria) were disappointed, for it shut shop in just 3 months. There were lots of expectations, given its looks, scale and character graphs.”

“We really don’t know what went wrong; could have been luck or poor execution, no one really knows.”

Best of luck for the new one, Piyush!!
