Actor Sandeep Baswana who was last seen in Sony SAB’s Dil Diyaan Gallan, will be seen in a very different avatar in Colors’ upcoming show Apollena – Sapno Ki Unchi Udann. The show produced by 4 Lions Films and Rajita Sharma’s Katha Kottage, has Aditi Sharma and Sandeep Baswana playing the main roles of the protagonist and her father. This will be the story of Apollena who aspires to become India’s first female astronaut. Also, she has to take the burden of being called a traitor’s daughter, owing to a certain misdeed that is charged to her father. Playing the father Giridhar, Sandeep has taken up this challenging role in the show.
He says about the concept of the show, “This is an inspiring tale of a girl who is interested in science and space from her childhood. The father wants to give his daughter all the support needed to become an astronaut. He supports her vision wholeheartedly. The show’s concept will convey to one and all that studying space science or becoming an astronaut is a very viable profession. It also gives a message to every parent to support their child’s aspirations.”
Talking about the confidence of the makers in this concept, Sandeep avers, “This is a different format altogether. This is an expensive show considering the concept that is being attempted. However, the makers are ready to go to any length to give the TV viewing audience this new variety in terms of concept.”
Ask him what prompted him to take this role and he says, “I was drawn to playing a middle-class man. The concept in itself is different and appealing. My role is that of a father who supports his daughter’s career choice. I have earlier worked with Colors in Udaan and it is a happy homecoming. Writer Rajita Sharma is too very good at exploring characters and giving them life. I know that with Colors and the production house, I am in good hands.”
On the father and daughter bond that is depicted vividly in the show, Sandeep states, “It is often believed in society that it is the son who takes care of the parents. However, through our show, we tell people that girls are not only responsible for their own lives but also towards the strong support they give their families.”
Sandeep praises Aditi Sharma saying, “She is an honest actor. Very innocent, wise and the perfect choice to play Apollena.”
Tell him about the importance of such unique concepts to do well on TV, the actor agrees saying, “Yes, this concept will appeal to the contemporary generation. It is a futuristic show which can be watched by families along with their kids. This is an experimental concept, which will give the viewers good entertainment.”
