Age is just a number: Smriti Kalra

Smriti Kalra talks about her new show Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara

The good looking and vivacious Smriti Karla is looking forward to the launch of her new Star Plus show Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara.

“I play a strong independent woman who falls in love with an older man. What I really like about my characterization is that unlike most female TV leads she is shown to be very fashionable,   a chic bahu look. Personally, like most girls of my age, I too love wearing western outfits, having said that sari is the most elegant Indian outfit and I love to wear it as well.”

Coming to the concept of older man younger woman romance,  personally  Smriti, who started with 12/24 Karol Bagh and Suvreen Guggal – Topper  says , “Age is just a number and you don’t fall in love with a person thinking  about his/her age, the feelings just happens .  What you say only comes into play later when you start evaluating your relationship or want to take it forward.”

Ask about working with Bollywood actor Sanjay Kapoor, who she is paired opposite,  Smriti says, “I will not lie and admit that I too had my preconceived notions about industry people and would judge his every action as to why is he being so nice. But over time (we have shot for a few days now) and I am beginning to accept that he is a very grounded person, with no starry hang ups.”

Smriti’s last Sony show Itti Si Khushi shut shop very  fast, “It was disappointing , especially for the producer (Rajan Shahi) and  writer  for first it was planned to make a movie (along with   Vidya Balan) on the story of 26 years old Neha who gets up after many years in coma.”

So what went wrong? “I guess such a unique concept takes time to build rapport with the audiences but Sony pulled the plug very fast. Also, here I believe the media also must  shoulder some blame for they talked about my character in terms of Priyanka Chopra’s Barfi character. Neha was not autistic, just that it would take her time to understand how adults behave as she was just 12 when the accident happened . she needed time to grow mentally and emotionally.”

When we ask about why she kept her distance from TV as the above show ended two years back and she says, “I was waiting for something juicy.  I will not do anything just for the heck of it.  I want to do shows which I can proudly show to my kids.”

In closing, Smriti adds that she is open to all kinds of concepts across mediums be it TV or digital or films.

We wish her luck.
