Vijayendra Kumeria is back to entertain his fans, and this time it is a never-seen-before look that he dons. Star Plus’ Teri Meri Doriyaann, produced by Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment sees him play the lead role of Angad Singh Mann, who is a very responsible businessman and a family man too. Vijayendra’s look in his Sardar getup has gotten him a great response.

In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Vijayendra Kumeria talks about the show, the characters and much more.

Excerpts:

How different is this role for you in Teri Meri Doriyaann?

Like every other character that I have done, this character is also different. This one is different in many aspects, starting from the look, culture, background, the way he talks and walks etc.

Playing a sardar character, what have been the preparations?

Yes, I have worked a lot on how I look as a Sardar. I grew my beard, and my hair. I have tried to get a little bit of the Punjabi accent into my dialogues.

Is this the most serious role that you are getting to play?

Yes, Angad Singh Brar is a serious character. But he also has different shades when he is with his family. Ya, for the outer world, Angad is someone who comes across as a no-nonsense person. But he does have other shades too.

What do you think is the USP?

The USP of Teri Meri Doriyaan is the cultural backdrop. Another USP, I will say is the love stories, love angles, the confusion on who is with whom, and the chemistry between characters are aspects that viewers will look forward to in the show and enjoy.

Tell us about your role.

Angad Singh Brar is the eldest son in the family. He is the most decent one, taking care of business, a no-nonsense person, and values money and time. He does not know much about love. For his family, he can die. He has a very good relationship with all. He has two sides to him, one is for his family and the other for the outer world. They are quite different from each other.

Seems like a youth-centric show, what are your expectations?

Yes, this is a youth-centric show. The main characters are young, story line is between them. All the characters are very relatable to the youth. It has an overall good feel.

A lot of shows have closed down quickly on TV in recent times. Does this make you think twice while taking up new projects?

I have always believed that every show has its own destiny. When you are getting a narration, you can never think whether the show will run for a long time or not. It all depends on when it comes on air, and how it is received by the audience. So I don’t put a lot of thought into that. If I like the character and the show is good, I take it up.

What do you think of this trend of adapting regional shows in Hindi?

If storylines in regional shows are good, and they have worked in the market and people have really liked it, then why not make pan-India shows out of it? I don’t find anything wrong with that.

How has the fan response been after the show’s start?

To be honest, fans have liked the story, and they have liked my look in the show. I have been receiving many calls and messages from friends as well that I am looking different. All like the production quality of the show, and have written that it looks like a film. Apart from me, they like all the characters and their execution.

What have your major learnings and unlearning been as a performer?

As a performer, when you take up anything new, you have to unlearn and forget what you were doing in your past project. Having said that, in this show, I have put a lot of thought on the body language, and how he talks and behaves. So I have unlearnt a lot and am still in the process of learning for this particular project.
