The highly talented and good-looking actor, Shashank Vyas, is enjoying the college guy track in his new Colors show, Roop. “Since I could not complete college, I missed out majorly on university mazaa i.e. hanging out with buddies, bunking lectures, etc.”
“Also, this is the first time I am getting to play a lighter side. Till now I have essayed only heavy melodramatic characters. This funny side is more like me in real life.”
Ask what went wrong with his last Star Plus show, Jaana Na Dil Se Door, and he says, “After around 9 months, I was not really happy with certain creative things. Rather than sulking on set, I preferred speaking to my producer, Yash Patnaik, who graciously let me go. Interestingly, I had to wait for a long time before my character in this Vikram Singh Chauhan and Shivani Surve co-starring series finally came around.”
“Bad content is a strict no-no. I feel caged if have do justice to bad writing. This is the main reason why I have not done too much work; this is my third show in past 8 years (started with Balika Vadhu).
“Having said that, I have also realized that planning alone does not work. You need to let destiny play its part. I also wished to do films after Balika, but it did not happen.”
“After leaving Jaana Na Dil Se Door, I sat at home for a while, letting go of many projects that are doing well, as I did not feel confident about the characterization.”
“Then Roop came along. I said yes, for I finally had something good to do; and secondly, it was a strong male-dominated show, which seldom happens in woman-dominated TV.”
Looking ahead, he is open to playing with the new digital media as well, “But yes, my above criterion remains the same. I am also not game for abuse and s*x scenes; do good makers like Vidhu Vinod Chopra resort to such stunts to sell their wares? I actually turned down a big film due to the same reasons.”
“Unlike others, I am not too greedy about screen space either. Even if I have two scenes, but they leave an imprint on the narrative, I am okay with it.”
