South film actress Asmita Sood, who is doing Sony and ALTBalaji show, Dil Hi Toh Hai, admits that while the show has done well on the web (supposed to be #1 on ALT), it has not really clicked on TV.
Says the actress, “Our new experiment, to design content that works for both sets of diverse audiences, is a work in progress.”
“One of the reasons for saying yes to this Balaji project was that although it is a drama, yet the shooting style and dialogue-writing are different from regular TV; it is a unique way of looking at content. Also, the story does not revolve around one or two major characters. Rather, an ensemble bunch of people propel the story forward,” she adds.
“Co-stars like Karan Kundra, Yogita Bihani and Krishna Shetty are a fun bunch of actors to work with. They are like family,” Asmita avers.
Remind her of her last TV show, Phir Bhi Na Maane…Badtameez Dil, which went off air in quick time, and this model turned actor says, “Yes, it was unfortunate, but a show is a team effort and I am not singularly responsible for its success or failure. So I took it in my stride, and marched on.”
Asmita also has Bollywood on her radar. “I am looking at something, but right now, my south films and the above TV show take precedence over everything else. I prefer taking advantage of whatever is on my plate.”
While Asmita is also ready for quickie, stand-alone web projects, she feels, “Desi web will need to up its content game, instead of just resorting to s*x and sleaze to get eyeballs, which will not work in the long run.”
Will you be game for content-driven bold stuff like Sacred Games? “Right now, I have not got anything as explicit, but if something like this does come along, I will cross that bridge then.”
In closing, when asked about her personal life, she comes out with the commonest, ‘am very much single and happy’ line. She apparently had no clue who model Sid Kumar was; interestingly, she was linked with him a while back. To be fair to her, she had denied it then as well!!
Best of luck, Asmita!!
