Actor Abhishek Malik, who is currently seen entertaining audiences on Zee TV and Studio LSD’s Jamai No.1, opens up about his relationship with dance, its importance in today’s fast-paced life, and the forms he enjoys most. Today, 29 April, being World Dance Day, Abhishek takes the moment to talk about dance and its significance.
Ask him how he would rate himself as a dancer, and Abhishek candidly shares, “On a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably rate myself a 7. I am not a trained dancer, but I enjoy dancing and I think I can pull off most steps with good energy and expression. I am always up for learning and improving.”
Speaking about whether he sees dance as a stress buster, Abhishek agrees wholeheartedly. “Dance is definitely a stress buster, especially in today’s world where everyone is so occupied with work, deadlines, and constant screen time. Just letting yourself move to the music helps you forget everything for a while. It’s like a happy therapy session for free,” he smiles.
On the kind of dance he enjoys watching and performing, Abhishek says, “I love anything that has a lot of energy and connects emotionally. I enjoy Bollywood dance the most — it’s expressive, dramatic, and full of fun. Watching contemporary dance also moves me because it’s so graceful and powerful at the same time.”
He speaks about how dance can be a major tool to improve both physical and mental health. “Dance keeps you physically active, and helps improve flexibility, stamina, and coordination. Mentally, it lifts your mood, reduces anxiety, and boosts self-confidence. It’s a full package when it comes to health,” he explains.
Ask him if there’s any particular form he would love to learn, and Abhishek shares an interesting dream. “I would love to learn Salsa. It’s stylish and vibrant, and it requires a great connection between partners. It’s something I haven’t explored yet, and I think it would be a fun challenge.”
