Adnan Khan, whose Zee TV show Ishq Subhan Allah has got a web spinoff, Ishq Aaj Kal ( Zee5), did not want to comment much on the same, “As I hardly had any scenes. Eisha Singh and Vinay Jain got some space though.”
Ask whether Zara and Kabir were used to funnel viewers to the new Zee5 show, he says, “Different people have different interpretations. But I don’t think our characters were used. Ishq Subhan Allah was the root from which a separate story has sprouted up. Had our characters got too much attention, it would have taken away from the new characters. And you must have heard the old adage that too many cooks spoil the broth.”
Looking ahead, Adnan would like to do more web series. While he will have no problems with a few bold scenes here and there, “I would draw the line if the story only revolves around s*x and sleaze.”
He had earlier done digital series, First Among Equals, written and produced by Vikram Bhatt.
Shifting attention to Ishq Subhan Allah, he says, “Doing this character for so long has made me so comfortable that Kabir has become like a second skin. I add a lot of myself to him. Also, being a Muslim myself has made it easier for me to understand where he comes from.”
“It is normally said that male actors don’t have much to do on desi TV. But I am lucky to have got to play so many different shades.”
Ask about the entry of Kinshuk Mahajan, which will bring the third angle to the romance between Zara and Kabir, and Adnan says, “I am really looking forward to it, for it gives us a chance to play with that one emotion that you want to avoid like the plague in real life.”
Adnan is also happy with the current ratings. “We have really worked hard and the results are there for you to see. Our numbers have gone up from 1.1 to 1.4. The story is proceeding well, taking into account the limitations of daily TV.”
In closing, would you want to comment on the rumours linking you and Eisha? “I guess some people on set are spreading such false news to gain mileage. We are good friends. Just because our chemistry is working does not mean that we are dating. In a way, they are discrediting our efforts as actors.”
