Akanksha Pal the newbie actress who plays the role of Megha Dubey in Colors’ Pinjara Khubsurti Ka hails from Meerut and came to the city of Mumbai with aspirations of becoming an actor.
Akanksha who has got theatre experience, has worked earlier in episodics on TV and in advertisements. Her first big break in terms of a continuity role comes with Saurabh Tewari’s Pinjara Khubsurti Ka.
She plays Megha, the elder sister of Mayura, who has a dusky complexion which does not attract suitors in general. She is always compared to her fair-complexioned, really beautiful looking sister Mayura (Riya Sharma).
Says Akanksha, “I am enjoying playing my part in the show. There is a transition in the character now. Earlier, Megha was all sweet, but now she has this hatred against her sister Mayura. I like this change in her.”
Ask her how easy or tough it is to play Megha and she states, “Well, this is what exactly happens in society. This is not new to me. The character of a dusky girl that I play in the show is similar to what I am in real life. So this has happened to me earlier, when I have gone to seek work. I have faced rejections for my dusky character and this is definitely not new to me. So I understand the rhythm of the character better. I understand Megha and her sentiments better.”
“In this industry, the fairer complexioned actors get more preference. Yes, there are requirements for sure of the dusky girl. I will not deny it. But wherever I used to go seeking roles, I was rejected for my complexion. In real life too, I have heard people say in Meerut that they need the fairer girls as daughter-in-law. So complexion matters a lot.”
Relating this to the show Pinjara Khubsurti Ka, Akanksha says, “Mayura the protagonist in our show is beautiful from the interior as well as the exterior. Since her elder sister is dusky, she does not get importance in the house, while Mayura bags all the limelight. So our show is totally based on the colour complexion and its consequences.”
On her own sound belief on beauty, Akanksha makes a strong statement, “People should know to see the beauty within a girl and not only see the outer beauty of the person. Beauty will fade with time, but the inner beauty will always remain in the person.”
About herself, Akanksha states, “I have had 4 years of experience in theatre. This background gave me the confidence to play this role.”
On the response got, it is a mixed reaction coming in for Akanksha’s role. “Well, few of them feel that Megha was good when the show started. However, few feel this change and negativity in Megha is coming out well.”
