19-year-old Priyal Mahajan is all set to make her television debut as a lead actress alongside senior actor Amar Upadhyay in Colors hard-hitting social drama Molkki.

Set in the backdrop of a Haryana village, the story revolves around a young, free-spirited girl Purvi (played by Priyal), who is sold as per the age-old Molkki tradition and married off to a widower Virendra Pratap Singh (Amar), who is twice her age.

Talking about the show, Priyal says, “I am super excited for this show. I was stunned when I heard the narration. I am playing a really challenging character named Purvi. She is a disciplined and independent girl. She has a lot of dreams and she wants to fulfill them all. She teaches in her village as she intends to become a teacher but unfortunately, she is sold as per the age-old Molkki tradition. The girl is not aware of the same, but when Purvi realizes a new twist takes place and that is what the show is all about.”

When asked about her take on Molkki? She shares, “I had no idea about this custom. I knew that Haryana has some prevalent traditions and norms and about the s*x ratio issue, but when the makers narrated the story to me, I was so shocked to know that something like this happens even today. As Priyal, I am totally against this custom. I wish that a law should be made to stop this tradition. This show will also inspire people and I hope audiences connect with my character.”

Commenting on her working experience with Amar, she mentions, “I am a fan of Amar sir since Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi days. When I learnt Amar sir is playing the role of Virendra, I was super thrilled. He inspires me and it is like a dream come true moment for me.”

Good luck Priyal!
