Young diva Pankhuri Awasthy, who was seen in shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Razia Sultan, and Suryaputra Karn, is all set to entertain the masses in a new show Gud Se Meetha Ishq on Star Bharat. The actress will be seen as a tourist guide named Kaju who will defy stereotypes inherent in this male-dominated society. In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Pakhuri revealed about her character, challenges, and more. Read on:
How does it feel to be a part of Gud Se Meetha Ishq?
It feels great to be a part of this show because I am coming to screen after a long time. I did Maddam Sir but that was just a cameo. Besides this, the storyline and characters are amazing. When I narrated the storyline, I was instantly pleased with it. I am playing a simple girl named Kaju who is from the mountains. She is a tourist guide who defies the stereotypes in this male-dominated society. She has big dreams and wants to achieve them. A girl has never played a tourist guide on television before, so that attracted me. Also, it educates society and gives a message that a girl can do anything that she wishes for herself.
Do you find any similarities between you and your character Kaju?
I believe that for every character that you portray, you put a little bit of yourself into it. With Kaju, she is a young girl, who is passionate and has big dreams. Here I relate a lot to Kaju. At one time, it was I, who wanted to become an actor. However, I had no idea how to go about it. Obviously, there were no social challenges for me but becoming an actress was a challenge itself.
Did you face any challenges while getting into the skin of the character?
The only challenge was to get the dialect right. I have worked hard on my dialogues to make the best. For this, I have a Garhwali teacher on the set who tells me the difference between right and wrong on every word, and tone and corrects my language. Even when I went to Mussoorie, I took special care of how the people there speak and learnt their mannerisms. Many of our co-actors are also Pahari, so I always ask them and keep learning so that my language gets used to this language. I think the real-life inspiration was taken into consideration for the role.
How has your experience been working with co-stars?
Our equation is very good with each other as there is a lot of comfort and understanding between us. We have become like a big family. Also, there are a lot of youngsters in the show so we all have become friends. We have our lunch together. When we get free time, we have fun.
What was Gautam Rode’s reaction when he saw the promos?
Gautam is very happy after watching all the promos that have been released so far. He has liked the song as well. He also mentioned that I look Pahari after the first look was released.

I would want to give them love. They have always supported me during all my projects. I would want audiences to watch Gud Se Meetha Ishq and shower us with all their blessings and love.
