Saanand Verma, best known for his roles in popular projects Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain and films, Babli Bouncer, Pataakha, Vijay 69, has shared his candid thoughts on the importance of looks in the entertainment industry. A versatile actor celebrated for his unique characters, Verma’s journey stands as an example of talent outweighing traditional ideals of appearance.
In a recent conversation, Saanand reflected on how the perception of good looks in the industry has evolved. “Earlier, good looks were considered half the battle won. But now the scenario has completely changed. We are much more focused on realistic storytelling. In the real world, not everyone is exceptionally good-looking, and that’s why realistic cinema and content have become the norm. Ordinary faces are now more interesting and relatable,” he explained.
Sharing his perspective on the role of appearance, he stated, “Good looks can sometimes be a disadvantage in acting. If you are an ordinary-looking person but an extraordinary actor, you have better chances of getting work. Good looks have become almost immaterial. For male actors especially, good looks are no longer a priority. Ordinary, simple-looking male actors are getting more work than traditionally ‘good-looking’ ones.”
When asked about his personal approach to appearance, he also revealed, “I am quite unconventional. I don’t pay much attention to my clothing or appearance. Fashion doesn’t interest me, and I live like a regular person. Achieving true simplicity is one of the most challenging things, and that’s what I strive for.”
Verma also acknowledged the tendency for people to judge based on looks. “Yes, I have been judged for my looks, weight, and height. It’s human nature. But I’m a loner and don’t give much attention to such judgments. I stay focused on my creative work,” he said.
However, Saanand conceded that appearances do make an impact in certain contexts. “It’s all about packaging. Good packaging creates an impression and adds value, not just in entertainment but in every industry,” he concluded.
Saanand Verma’s perspective highlights a shift in the entertainment industry, where talent and authenticity increasingly take precedence over superficial standards.
Well-said!!
