Talented and good looking stud Iqbal Khan last seen in Kaal Bhairav – Rahasya is waiting for some really juicy role. “For the moment historical and mythos rule the roost and they are really not my cup of tea,” the actor avers.
Till the time it happens, he does not mind doing interesting cameos. He was last seen in Star Bharat show Kaal Bhairav- Rahasya. Prior to that, he did cameo roles in &TV’s Waaris and Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant as well.
For me more than the length, what really matters is what I am bringing to the table. Also he is not worried about getting typecast. “I have confidence in abilities and have also matured up; so I will not fear about not getting better work down the road.”
Iqbal also does not believe that only young men (22/23 age) get to play leads. “Leaving my debut rock star lead role (Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai), I have always played my age e.g. Tumhari Pakhi and Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli etc.”
Iqbal who has given a bevy of hit shows over the years (Kahiin Toh Hoga, Karam Apnaa Apnaa and Chhoona Hai Aasmaan etc) says his criteria in selecting any role are getting the gist of the story and narrative. “It is my firm belief that a good story always fetches decent if not superb ratings. The problem starts when numbers come and you make wholesome changes to the script and presentations.”
“Luckily for me, most of the scripts I chose were not altered. There were only 2 unfortunate incidents, one was Zee TV’s Waaris (2009). Although the show based on Godfather was rating well, it shut shop, so we don’t know what went wrong. ”
“Second was was Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do. Sony decided not to extend the limited series. Agreed had numbers come, maybe it would have got a second lease of life. All said and done, I still maintain that the Balaji show where I played a spy has been my best work till date. It would give me immense satisfaction driving home after shoot, for I really got something to do as actor. ”
Besides TV, Iqbal also would not mind toying with web series. “Sadly some folks are taking advantage of the lack of censor rule and adding s*x and abuse just to get clicks.”
Ask him whether desi web should not go beyond just s*x and also try out bolder political themes and he quickly says, “Well that depends on who is making it. If you are a big player, you end up attracting unnecessary attention which is not a good thing.”
Way to go, Iqbal!!
