He’s certainly a man of few words. But he roars and shines with his acting prowess every time he is seen on screen.
We are talking about the very talented actor Karan Mehra, who stunned everyone with his amazingly powerful acting display in his first show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus.
Extremely selective about his body of work, Karan always prefers quality over quantity. After proving his mettle in few shows (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Khatmal E Ishq) and reality shows (Bigg Boss 10 and Nach Baliye 5), Karan is waiting for the right opportunity and script to make a comeback.
Though Karan prefers to talk less and make his work speak for himself, he very kindly obliged and gave us time for a candid conversation. Here is IndianWikiMedia’s exclusive interview with Karan Mehra.
Excerpts:
What are you up to these days?
My baby is keeping me busy all day. Me and Nisha as parents want to enjoy each moment with Kavish and want to experience the day-to-day joys with him. I am also doing a theatre play, so gearing up for that too. It is really difficult to do theatre as you have no time for rehearsal and you have to give your best.
What is the perfect way to enjoy a sabbatical for an actor?
I feel after continuously working for eight years, a long holiday or break is needed. After my Bigg Boss stint, we learnt about an angel coming into our lives, so we were very happy. I wanted to give my entire time to my family. Hence this holiday was worth it.
It’s been a great effort portraying the role of Naitik for so many years. How do you cherish the entire journey?
I really cherish my journey in the show. As a person and as an actor, I have evolved in these many years. The show has created history and made us what we are today. Fan’s love and support has always motivated me to do the best in life.
How do you think you have evolved as an actor with this Yeh Rishta journey?
Every day was a learning process for me. Of course, I had a lot of people around with the help of whom I grew. Seeing things from different people’s perspective has helped me grow. Initially, there were difficulties because I was a fresher but now it is spontaneous. This is also helping me for my play wherein I have to prepare 100 pages in 3 days. This is also a different experience altogether.
Any regrets so far?
There are no regrets! I am happy and content in life.
What has been your biggest achievement as an actor?
The kind of love that I gained is an achievement for me. They made me an idol husband of TV. I am happy to be in this phase.
Many actors are getting inclined towards web series. Will you be keen on doing it?
Ofcourse, digital platform is the next level. Web-series is the new craze. I would love to explore that space too.
Which TV actress would you like to work with in the future?
Well, there have been so many actresses like Ragini Khanna, Deepika Singh, Pooja Gor and Toral Rasputra. They are amazing human beings and wonderful actresses.
Do you wish to be a part of a mythological or a historical show?
Mytho is difficult as the sets are too far and are outside the vicinity of Mumbai; so it becomes difficult for an actor. Now, I have responsibility towards my family. However, I wouldn’t mind doing it.
Do you think an actor’s life is very uncertain and they should have a backup plan?
Yes, I do agree that an actor’s life is very uncertain. I think they should have a back-up plan.
What is that one thing that has kept you and Nisha together?
It is really difficult to pick one thing. I feel when she stepped into my life everything changed. It seemed like a fairytale. We were best friends, then started dating and eventually got married. Our lives became more special when Kavish entered. I am in a happy phase with my family.
How has fatherhood changed you?
I am a full hand-on-person. I take care of him, change his diapers and feed him. I think it is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
How do you describe yourself as a father and husband?
I am not psycho possessive for my family, but a very protective husband and father. The only thing is that we don’t have time to sleep. However, we are enjoying this phase too.
What is your take on this season of Bigg Boss? Have you seen Hina’s stint in Bigg Boss 11? Who is your favourite and deserves to win the show?
Nisha hates TV so we avoid watching it. I am not following the current season of Bigg Boss so can’t comment on anyone’s performance. Bigg Boss is not our cup of tea. We are hooked to Netflix.
Message for your fans?
I really want to thank my fans for the kind of love they have for me. I feel like I have this really large extended family who only wants to see me happy and that itself fills me with so much joy; it’s overwhelming at times. Thank you so much for the continuous, unfailing love and support throughout the years. I am truly grateful. I will soon be back with something really great.
Karan, we wish you all the luck, success and happiness!!
