Krishna Bharadwaj the talented and gifted actor gave his fans a special gift by portraying the role of Tenali Rama in the popular Sony SAB show that recently ended. After having entertained masses with this jestful character, Krishna is now elated to have bagged the International Iconic Award for being the Best Actor in Comedy.

Says Krishna, “This award means a lot to me for I got it after Tenali Rama went off air. Getting an award for a show is equivalent to getting direct appreciation from the live audience in a theatre for me. I have cherished the recognition that comes at the end of a play as a theatre artist when people give you a standing ovation and praise you in person as well. This felt exactly the same and I shall always treasure this award. I feel elated that my hard work got its fruit.”

Ask Krishna how easy is it to hit the perfect chord in making people laugh and he states, “I feel comedy comes naturally to me for I know what my audience likes to see me performing and also how they want me to make them laugh. During the initial days of Tenali Rama, I remember having a lot of creative differences with the director which resulted in two takes of a scene, one of his choice and one of mine. Most of the time, the take I delivered on my own went on air. I think comedy is a genre that bridges a connection with the viewers and I feel glad about mastering knacks of it back in my theatre days. The projects I did before Tenali Rama were more like a slice of life than drama and I feel that strengthened my ease with comedy.”

Do you want to try out intense roles now? “Yes, definitely I would like to try out the intense roles for I wish to come out of my comic, cute-guy-next door zone. I would like to take up roles having a psychotic or grey shade to drastically change my image as an artist. Being a hardcore actor at heart, I would like to experiment.”

On the dream role that has not come to him yet, Krishna Bharadwaj avers, “I think portraying roles having their own unique characterization with layers is a dream for me rather than any specific character. I would like to act in roles like that of Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games, and Irrfan Khan in Qissa. I do not have a heroic personality or appearance and hence would like characters to be a remembrance of me.”

Ask him how he would rate the toughness of portraying an emotional scene Vs a comic scene and he is quick to say, “I feel portraying a comic scene is always tougher than portraying an emotional scene. It is a tough job any day to make someone laugh. As an actor, one knows how to do both but the magnitude of hard work in delivery differs, for the audience always has an emotional side hidden somewhere. But the connectivity with comic timing has to be nurtured well. I feel glad to have played a layered character like Tenali Rama.”
