What is the significance of International Men’s Day to you?
I never knew that there is an International Men’s Day. I am unusually unaware of these celebrations. I don’t even know from when this day is being celebrated. So that in itself, answers the question.
Talking about television, most of the projects on TV are women-oriented. Megha Barsenge is also a story perceived as Megha’s journey. How has the role of Arjun been for you from the perspective of a male actor?
I partly agree with you, that some or most of the projects on TV are women-oriented. Megha Barsenge, our show has the title of a woman’s name on it. However, I am happy that we have makers who know how to balance things out. Saurabh Tewari Sir is one of those, who knows how to balance work between a male protagonist and a female protagonist. Up until now, I have been happy about the projects that I have been a part of. The way Arjun has been perceived and written in the show is nice. I am enjoying it. I miss playing Arjun when I am not shooting for it. I don’t know about other shows. I can speak about shows that I have been a part of. Fortunately, I have had the honour of being a part of such shows where men have been shown in a nice way. Nice way in the sense, of screen presence and distribution of work.
How much do you think Arjun has a justified stance in terms of prominence?
Till now, the way Arjun has been woven into the storyline has been impressive. I have liked how he has been given his space in the show. I have never believed that a show is about one character. So that’s how Arjun has been planned. I am happy with the way things are progressing as of now.
How eager are you to get a male-centric role in any medium? If so, what is your dream role?
A role is a role. What is the point of doing a male-centric role if it’s not written well? I would rather do a project where the role has been written well. It is up to me as an artist to make my space in the show. I am not consciously looking for a show which has a male-centric role. However, if I get one which is also written well, I would love to be a part of that. I don’t think about my dream role anymore. But that may be limiting to only my imagination about myself. Probably some other person is looking at me from a very different lens and thinks that I may fit into a role that I never even imagined. I never dreamt of Arjun. I am glad that I am pulling it off.
Do you think there are situations in which men are deprived of what they deserve? Anything that you have experienced/ seen/ heard?
I feel you cannot generalize this. I feel it is not about men or women alone, but some people get deprived of what they deserve. It is sad to see that happen. I have not experienced at least with myself.
