I can never be like Vanraj Shah in real life: Sudhanshu Pandey on his character in Anupamaa

Sudhanshu Pandey who plays Vanraj Shah in Anupamaa says he can never be like his character in real life.

One actor who created a storm with his portrayal of the meanest, male-chauvinist avatar is Sudhanshu Pandey with his character portrayal of Vanraj Shah in the popular show “Anupamaa”. The actor has quite often revealed that he does not relate to his reel character at all, but he admitted that he doesn’t have any conflicts per se going on his mind because his reel and real self are completely different.

“When I play Vanraj’s character, I debate on occasions when I feel there is a certain line which Sudhanshu Pandey would not like to say. But then I have to remind myself that it’s Vanraj’s character and maybe he would talk like that, or he maybe he would say something like that. Vanraj’s character has always been walking on a very thin line, and even if the line is written in a very negative manner, it’s the way I say it and execute it that determines whether the audience will hate me or they’ll be okay with it or they’ll understand that, this guy has negativity in him but there is a reason behind it,” he said.

“So it’s a very very thin line on how I execute it, and I focus on that. There’s no conflict in my mind because Sudhanshu Pandey won’t be like this in his real life. He has never been like that and that’s not what he can ever be in his life,” he added.

Remembering the Mahashivratri track where Vanraj had an emotional outburst because of an issue with his son Samar, Sudhanshu confessed that playing Vanraj can get taxing at times.

“It does have a bearing when you play a certain character which is like Vanraj Shah. Sometimes there are really high-intensity scenes and very intense emotions like I did one scene which is the most iconic scene for me, it was 11 pages of an outburst of Vanraj Shah as a father, and that exhausted me a lot. In fact, that had a bearing on me for over a month, even my voice and vocal cords were affected. For over a month, I couldn’t get back to my normal voice, so it does have a bearing because you’re emotionally executing everything so much that obviously you’re bound to get emotionally drained,” the actor concluded.

Well Said!!
