Ashi Singh, the young bubbly beauty, who rose to fame as innocent Naina in Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, is currently seen playing the titular role of Meet in Zee TV show Meet. The actress is seen in a completely new avatar which has thrilled her fans too.
Meet is the journey of a spirited young girl from Haryana, Meet, who contrary to the popular perception that only a son can be a ghar ka chiraag, is the ghar ‘ki’ chiraag for her family. In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Ashi spoke about her character, challenges, expectations and more. Read on:
How does it feel to be a part of a show like Meet?
Meet is not only a different or experimental show but also a daily show which brings forth a very pertinent subject for society to think about. The channel is bringing audiences a show where a woman proves, through her personal example, that there is nothing women aren’t capable of doing and it is high time we reviewed our own thinking about gender roles and responsibilities. I am glad that I am part of such a show and excited to explore this character’s journey.
How do you think the show will help to bring a change in society?
Well, the thinking will not change completely. I would say those people who watch Meet and get inspired from her or 1 percent of the society think differently, then our motive will be achieved.
What do you like the most in Meet?
Meet is a lovely character. She is responsible, caring, and helpful. I love her mentality the most. She isn’t consciously trying to break rules, but she ends up doing so just by being who she is. She sees a responsibility ahead of her and chooses to take charge of the situations life throws at her, instead of waiting for a man to come by and find her a solution. She handles everything easily.
What are your expectations from this role?
When I signed for the show, I felt it would not be that difficult to portray the role. But I feel it is challenging. I personally don’t know if people will accept the show or like it but my expectation is that I grow as an actor via this role. I hope to do justice with the character.
Any particular challenges you faced while getting into the skin of the character?
There were many, I will start with the look. I wasn’t comfortable with the look, the wig that I am wearing in the show. I did 15-20 look tests to get it perfect. Later, the language. I have never spoken in the Haryanvi language. I am in the learning process and still trying to get it right. In the show, Meet rides a bike, I personally don’t know how to ride one but I am trying to learn that too. Every day, I learn something new. I have not got the character right yet. I am still Ashi, who is trying to be Meet.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you message to all my fans and our viewers for giving us so much love and affection. I just hope that my performance is convincing and connects with viewers. I look forward to lots of love and support from the viewers.
