Yogendra Vikram Singh who is back on television after two gigantic roles in TV shows Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin and Teri Meri Doriyaann, is happy and excited about his new show on Zee TV, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab with him and Rajshree Thakur Vaidya playing the leads.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Yogendra talks about comparisons of his show with Anupamaa, and on the societal issue that the show’s plot deals with.
Talking about the show Bas Itna Sa Khwaab and the desires that the common man aims to fulfil, Yogendra says, “Bas Itna Sa Khwaab is every middle-class family’s life. We have so many desires in life and want to achieve them. Challenges are part of life and all is in how the family comes together to support each other.”
A typical middle-class household needs both the husband and wife to earn to give the family a good living. Talking about the varied thought process in this show and the message given out, the actor says, “Yes, that is the way it should be. But it is not that easy to understand these thoughts. The outlook that society has towards women is different. The protagonist Shikhar Trivedi loves his wife Avani a lot. However, he has this fixed mentality that the woman’s responsibility lies inside the house, while the man goes out to earn the bread for the family. Our show breaks this male chauvinistic norm and shows how a woman can also gain equal ground at her workplace and evolve.”
Yogendra has this philosophy in mind. “Mard ko dard hota hai and woh rota bhi hai!!. This is my philosophy. Whoever feels pained and cries is the ultimate man. It is up to the men to together take their wives out of the house and give them the freedom to work and do something for their family. There is no competition as such between the husband and wife. Their priority is the family and this how it should be.”
Yogendra who has bagged two hit shows of Star Plus, is a fanboy of Zee TV. “I am grateful to Zee TV for giving me this big opportunity. Frankly, when I was growing up, I was a big fanboy of the channel. Now, Zee TV has given me my first main role in a show, of a guy who will tell the story. It is a new responsibility to shoulder and I hope for the same and more love from people.
On comparison with Anupamaa, Yogendra categorically denies saying, “You cannot talk about the book after only seeing its cover. When you see Bas Itna Sa Khwaab, you will realize how different the show is when compared to Anupamaa. This is the story of every middle-class family, this is the story that evolves from a 1 BHK house. This show is not Anupamaa.”
