Praneet Bhatt, celebrated for his remarkable performances as mythological characters in the past, is making a comeback to the genre with a compelling new role. This time, he embodies the character of Sahastramukh Raavan in Sony SAB’s Shrimad Ramayan, infusing the legendary figure with a fresh perspective.

During a candid conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Praneet Bhatt delved into the intricacies of his role and shed light on how his portrayal adds a new dimension to this timeless saga.

Describe your role in Shrimad Ramayan?

In Sony SAB’s Shrimad Ramayan, I play the role of Sahastramukh Ravan, a thousand-headed demon and the elder brother of Dashanand Raavan. He represents the peak of Asur’s power and uses his many faces to mislead and confuse people. His character embodies deception and manipulation.

What are the challenges in playing Sahastramukh Raavan? How did you overcome it?

I didn’t know about Sahastramukh Raavan before the show’s writers narrated the character to me. I was very intrigued by his characteristics. It was a challenge to get into the character’s skin and truly understand his motives, so I surrendered myself to the creative team and followed their vision and direction. Their guidance made the challenge more like an opportunity to bring this character to life.

How do you enjoy being part of mythological shows?

The Ramayan and Mahabharata are the history of our land, and I see their characters alive even today. For me, working in these shows is like bringing history to life, which is both enriching and deeply fulfilling.

How differently are you portraying the role of Raavan?

Many people are not very familiar with Sahastra Raavan and hence I have tried to portray him with a fresh perspective, bringing depth and complexity to the character. Preparing for this role, I studied Sahastra Ravan not just as a villain, but as a figure driven by his immense knowledge, power, and desires. My character represents not only physical strength but also the many layers of his personality that reflect his grandeur, intelligence, and tragic downfall.

Working on a show as iconic as Ramayan with such a passionate team has been truly rewarding. It’s a privilege to be part of this journey with Sony SAB and Swastik Productions.
