Back in a lead role after your cameo in Sirf Tum. How does it feel?
I was away from TV for quite some time. I ended up doing Sirf Tum because Rashmi Sharma and I go long back. I’ve done two shows with them, my career started with their show. My career started with them through Sasural Simar Kaa so I couldn’t say no to them. In between all this, I was working on my web show, which ended up doing very well.
You have been away from the limelight for a while. What kept you busy?
I was working on my web show, but it got postponed because there was COVID. And there was so much going on. So I was just busy with all of that.
How do you choose your roles? What attracted you towards this one in Janam Janam Ka Saath?
Vidhi is a very dedicated, hardworking, family-oriented person, sweet, simple, and naive. These are the characteristics that I love about her. She’s also someone who doesn’t really give up easily. So she’s always, looking at the brighter side of things, and very considerate just like me. So I think that’s what attracted me towards this character. And like I said, I did not initially want to play Vidhi, because of the language. But the makers pushed for it. Once I actually auditioned for it, they were quite fine with my accent because I have a very Urban tone. So I wasn’t sure if I would fit the character, but it all kind of worked out, I guess.
Tell us about the two characters from the past and present that you play in Janam Janam Ka Saath?
The two characters from the past and present, the past is Bhanumati and the one in the present day I play Vidhi. Basically, it is the same soul but looks are different. One is based in 1941 in 2022, but I really love Bhanumati’s look. And also like I tried to incorporate more Rajasthani for her character, as compared to shooting Vidhi.
How is it shooting with Gaurav S Bajaj?
Gaurav is a nice, sweet person. He loves to feed people, he gets amazing home food. We all have lunch together. He was the first person to actually give a mock shoot with me. I just knew from the beginning that, if I got this show, Gaurav would probably be opposite me because the chemistry was definitely good.
You played a psycho character in your last show. How often do you mind experimenting with roles?
I don’t mind experimenting with roles because it’s fun. Like in my last web show, I was playing an 18-year-old and then to do a TV show playing a bahu is a great feeling. So yeah, I always love doing these kinds of experiments. I really wish someday to sort of play a role where I can do a lot of action because I think that would be amazing.
You have tried your hand in the medium of the web too apart from TV. How has that experience been?
The experience of shooting a web is obviously way more fun. There’s a lot of prep work that goes into shooting for a web project. The timing also comes out better as we get all the time in the world. In TV we are constantly performing. It’s a very different kind of experience and I think I really like it because there’s still so much room for improvement.
What are the kind of roles that you will like to play in the future?
I would love to do some action role. I’ve never shied away from doing grey shades because that’s how I actually started my career doing grey shades. I auditioned for the grey shade in this show too, but the makers felt that I would play Vidhi better. I am okay with anything as long as I can connect to the character and once you feel connected to it, then it’s easier to play the role.
