Ashish Chowdhry, who is returning to fiction space with Colors detective show Dev, is quite kicked about his dual character of being an ace detective and criminal.
“I like to see world cinema i.e. Spanish and Italian, we get to watch lots of it courtesy TV and Netflix. Dev is fit to be in the digital category as well concept wise, a fun watch for audiences.”
Talking about his TV journey this handsome dude says, “Life is roller coaster after 35 films (Shaadi Ka Laddoo and Qayamat: City Under Threat). I had to take a break when my sister was killed during 2008 Mumbai terror attack. When I returned I wanted money after the above bad time. I chose TV for it not only offers more money, it also gives you space to do your own thing, given your film tag. Having said that, I do concede that I was no major film star either, I was always a multi starrer comedy film guy (Dhamaal and Paying Guest etc).”
Interestingly, Ashish started his career with TV (Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye back in 2001) before moving to films.
“After Ek Mutthi Aasmaan wrapped up on Zee TV, I decided to wait for it is very important to reinvent yourself. I was not growing out of my comic zone in films and daily TV also has a certain graph to it. Patience is the key, though will again concede that offers were not great either. In this desperation I said yes to Khatron Ke Khiladi which I would always turn down before, This time I got on board for I needed the moolah to buy a bigger house to fit my growing family (total 5 kids now… his 3 and sister’s 2). I am glad I agreed for it taught me a big lesson. i.e that you should never say yes or no just on concept for only if you jump in the water, can you learn to swim. I had never done adventure sports in my life yet went on to win. I am the only contestant in the history of all Fear Factor’s across the world who did not land up in the danger zone even once.”
Indeed laudable…
Continuing he says, “You always need to experiment. Though too much experimentation was another no which I learnt the hard way for I ended up doing Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa which was bad for I can’t shake a leg. Also then you are labeled as desperate. So I took a break and went into business, now I have a security company.”
On a closing note, Ashish tells, “Henceforth, I will only do shows which appeal to me. I hope Dev works; if it does we will have a second season.”
We wish him all the best!!!
