Popular actress Divyanka Tripathi who is known for her notable works like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Adrishyam – The Invisible Heroes, etc, deeply understands the value of reading books. Today, 23 April, being World Book Day, Divyanka takes a deep plunge into talking about her reading habits.

She says, “I would say that I am a curious reader. I may not devour a book every week, but when a book grabs me, I dive deep. I value books that stay with me long after I turn the last page.”

Talking about her interests, she says, “I am drawn to books that make me rethink the world, be it science, history, or human behaviour. I love it when a book expands my understanding or challenges a belief gently but powerfully. I am also a sucker for layered storytelling with emotional depth.”

Listing out the book that changed her perspective, Divyanka avers, “Humankind by Rutger Bregman. It reframed the way I see human nature, not as inherently selfish, but deeply collaborative and kind at the core. That shift is powerful, especially in today’s world.”

On the book that she is ever keen to have a reread, she states, “A Short History of Nearly Everything is one I go back to. It’s like a cosmic reset button. It reminds me how vast and fascinating our Universe is and how lucky we are to be part of it.”

She inspires young minds to gain the habit of reading. “I would say- books are magic portals. They are the one place where you can time travel, explore worlds, live other lives, and understand yourself better without ever leaving your room. Start small, but start. There’s a book out there waiting to become your favourite.”

On the book that she would like to see being adapted to the small screen or the big screen, Divyanka says, “Definitely The Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi. It has Everything- mythology, action, philosophy, romance, and a hero’s journey that’s both deeply personal and epically grand. If done right, with the right scale and soul, it could be India’s answer to Game of Thrones but rooted in our own legends and cultural depth. I would love to see the main protagonist being portrayed as the fierce yet flawed warrior Mr Tripathi wrote so beautifully.”

Lastly, she gives a special idea to celebrate the special day of World Book Day this way. “How about a ‘Book & Bite’ party? Everyone brings a book they love and a snack inspired by it. You chat, swap reads, and may be act out a dramatic reading or two. Could be goofy, emotional, or inspiring, just like books themselves.”

Well said, Divyanka!!
