Industry’s one of the most gentle and dignified actors Ravi Dubey is soon going to get his hands dirty. Don’t get us wrong, we are talking about his upcoming stint in Khatron Ke Khiladi where he will be seen battling slime and lizards.
We met Ravi at the launch press conference of the new season of above big ticket Colors reality show produced by Endemol India. “I want to take on my fears. I can’t pin point any particular phobia. It can be anything which I have not faced in my day to day life i.e. heights, water or fire. None of these will be dealt with in a limited space on the show. I will not have the privilege to take two plunges in the water or just dip my hand for a second, rather the dares will get progressively stiffer with each passing round. ”
This is only the second reality show that Ravi has taken part in after Nach Baliye. “It was reality in truer sense. My interactions with them back end or on the screen was for real. If someone got hurt while performing, content would be made round it, but was not scripted for sure. The acts were real. As a consumer that is how it should be and last but not the least it gives the audience a chance to know who we (actors) really are as opposed to who we play.”
Ravi, whose last fiction outing Jamai Raja on Zee TV was a hit, is in no hurry to return with another soap. “I have given legitimate amount of time to fiction. I will be much more discreet henceforth. The number of check points has increased. A couple of projects are under discussion. I took up KKK for it was short period of time. Fiction has given me everything and I will forever respect it.”
Talking about Jamai Raja he says, “The show has given me lots of honour and respect. I worked very hard but the show delivered much more for all concerned. It did not make me a Jamai but Raja for sure (smiles).”
Any particular genre you would be love to try your hands at? “Something like Sherlock, and I don’t just mean the detective genre. The way the entire script is written, each dialogue has a meaning, nothing is irrelevant. Even if you miss one scene, you will not get the ending.”
In closing, when we ask Ravi if he has the ability to go the whole hog in KKR he says, “I don’t know. When it comes to emotional challenges, you have no alternate but to stand up but when coming to facing physical challenges, you have an option to opt out like I did. As a child I did not even play cricket or football. I did not say yes immediately to doing KKK, there was a lot of contemplation involved. I decided to go ahead and challenge my fears with the hope of coming out as a better person.”
All the best Ravi!!!
