In a world that is rapidly evolving traditional gender roles, actor Abhishek Malik, known for his role as Akshay in Zee TV’s popular show Kumkum Bhagya, offers a refreshing perspective on the age-old festival of Karwa Chauth. In a recent interview with IWMBuzz.com, Abhishek shared his thoughts on this festival, highlighting the importance of equal contribution in a relationship and celebrating the bond of love and togetherness.
Karwa Chauth is a significant festival in India, celebrated primarily by married women who fast from sunrise to moonrise for the long and prosperous life of their husbands. While the traditional significance of this festival remains intact, Abhishek’s take on Karwa Chauth brings a modern and progressive twist to the celebration.
He said, “Karwa Chauth has traditionally been portrayed as a festival where a woman prays for her husband’s long life, but I believe, that a relationship is better when both partners make equal contributions in every step of the relationship. Hence, because my wife is fasting for me, I will do the same for her. I have always seen my mother celebrating the ritual with excitement. I belong to a Punjabi family so sargi (early morning meal) is an important part of the day. I will wake up early to help my wife with the rituals and follow the same. I will ensure unlike other days I spend quality time with my wife. I have bought something special for her, and I am sure she will love it.”
