He is content and happy with the manner in which the story plot in the show has been moving.

In a candid chat with IWMBuzz.com, Harsh talks about his takeaway from the role, and also throw insight on how television is the toughest medium to shoot for!!

Excerpts:

How are you enjoying the story plot in Saathiya?

I really enjoy the story plot in Saathiya 2. I am not saying that because I am in it. If you look at Saathiya 1 and Saathiya 2, probably I think our story moves the fastest when compared to all TV shows. For example, we lost our house, and in five episodes, we had our house back with us. Another example if you take of last week, there were so many attacks on Kanak. There are so many twists and turns in Saathiya 2 and in the pace at which it keeps coming, is incredible. That’s really commendable for a TV show in India, when mostly story plots are stretched a lot.

In the 250 episodes I have done for the show, I feel as though I have been part of nearly 1000 twists and turns that have engrossed viewers. It is very taxing on the people part of it, but the good thing is that you get a wide range of experience.

What are your takeaways from the role of Anant?

I play Anant Desai, and as his name suggests, he is endless in doing good for people. He is kind and compassionate. What is really striking for me in this character is that Anant believes in economic equality. I think economic equality needs to be there in individuals. It is important to give respect to a human being, irrespective of what he is in life or who he is. This according to me, is the best aspect in Anant.

When he comes home after studying abroad, he looks at Gehna who works in the house, with utmost compassion. He treats her equally and tells her not to allow anyone to treat her badly. I am really happy that on prime time, there is a show on Hindi TV that talks about economic equality. I know MS Dhoni does that. I like to follow the same in my real life too.

What is your secret to good looks?

I think my secret to good looks would be confidence. You can dress well, also working out etc. But for me, it is the body language that needs to be strikingly confident.

How is it working with Sneha Jain?

Working with Sneha has been very unique to me. I had never worked with an actor who was just starting out. This is my 12th year as an actor, and having done all the mediums – TV, films, web, my career has gone through phases. Sneha had done only few episodics before Saathiya 2. There is a vast difference in the way in which she started her Saathiya journey, to the phase now. Honestly speaking, we are very different people. Our life paths have been different. Being an Aquarian, I am very particular and methodical. Sneha is a chirpy person. It’s been interesting to see the way in which we have gelled together for 11 months now. I have seen her develop herself via various phases.

How do you gel with Sneha offscreen?

We do not have common friends. Our work is so hectic that we don’t get much time. It hardly leaves us with time to just go home and sleep. She has her own joint family. Also, the Covid situation has restricted many gatherings that can happen outside the set. We have mingled once or twice at our teammates’ place for a get-together. Otherwise, we are together working for nearly 14 hours every day (smiles).

How tedious is it to shoot for a TV show?

I have to say that it is the toughest medium to work in. If you do theatre, you do a 2-3 hours play and you rehearse for it for 1 or 2 months. When you do repeat shows, you are really at ease as you are doing the same thing. TV is not such a case. In a film, we shoot for 2-3 minutes a day. For TV, we shoot for nearly 23 minutes in a day. This is more when compared to a movie. In the web, you do not shoot for more than 10 minutes. You take ample breaks in between as you travel a lot. We are making almost a movie every week. So, I would say that TV is the toughest medium.

As an actor, what is the kind of scene you are extremely comfortable in (comedy, emotions etc)?

After working in TV, I don’t think an actor will not have most of the varied emotions. I know I am good at many emotions. Probably, since I have never played a parent, the love for kids is the only emotion that remains untouched as of now.

Is there any dream role?

I don’t have anything of this sort. I do not want to be part of any remake. What I like is that I will want to do a comedy TV show. I want to shoot happy scenes and come back home happily. I want to wait and see that happiness reaching people in their houses. My name, Harsh means happiness. So, I will be happy if I am able to spread happiness to people who watch me.

All the best, Harsh!!!
