It is very important for me to portray characters that lean towards realism: Sheen Dass

Sheen Dass who rose to fame with Piya Albelaa is happy and glad to have associated with Rajshri Productions again, for Dadi Amma Dadi Amma Maan Jaao, the new Star Plus show.

After getting into the TV industry and essaying smaller roles, Sheen has had a gradual upswing in career by bagging back to back lead roles.

Her simplicity and calm persona as an actor have given her bigger opportunities as an actor.

In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Sheen talks about her journey, her new role and her preferences when it comes to her career.

Excerpts:

What made you accept the show Dadi Amma Dadi Amma Maan Jaao?

When a call came from Rajshri Productions, the role had to be good. Above all, the concept is about grandparents and their bonding with their granddaughters. I felt that such a show has never been made before. It is a very cute relationship that the show will explore.

I am glad that Anjali is not the fearful and silent girl who cannot make her own decisions.

What do you like the best about your character Anjali?

Anjali is shown to be very responsible for her family. However, if she is responsible it does not mean that she will always be goody-goody to all of them. Anjali snaps, cries, gets angry and at the same time, loves her family. She fights with her grandparents and her father. This is a very relatable character and realistic too. A person can get angry with her family that she very much loves. I am glad that Anjali is not the fearful and silent girl who cannot make her own decisions.

How is it to work with actors like Mohan Joshi and Seema Biswas?

What can I say!! This is a superb opportunity to work with ace actors like them. They are a powerhouse of talent and I am learning a lot from them.

How important is the concept of realism to you as an actor?

It is very important. However much people like black and white, we all know that in reality, it is not always only black or white. It is very important for me to portray characters that lean towards realism. This show, on the whole, is not a usual concept. If you see, it is a risky proposition as the storyline is very different. But this concept is surely a risk to be taken. The show is being shot on a very big scale and we look forward to this journey. This is a big opportunity for me to be part of a show that is shot like a film.

What was the major advice given to you when you prepped for this role?

Well, our Director Vikram Naaz Sir told me to be as real as possible. He asked me not to treat my lines as dialogues and get it out as naturally as I can. When I get appreciated for any scene, I make it a point to credit my Director for it, as he is the one who has taught me the nuances to play Anjali. I remember him out of respect every time I get a compliment.

How is it to get back to Rajshri Productions?

It is a homecoming for me. I know most of them in the crew. They refer to me as Poojaji (screen name in Piya Albelaa) even today. Few of them have gotten the hang of calling me Anjali now. I feel very comfortable on the set of a Rajshri show.

It has been a nice good experience for me to start from being a one day, two-day character actor and to play the lead in a show.

Do you see any relatability with respect to your real self and reel character?

I am relatable to Anjali in many aspects. I love my parents a lot, and also fight a lot with them just like Anjali.

How do you see your career progress?

I have had a gradual growth in the industry. Before Piya Albelaa, I have played character roles in a few shows. Piya Albelaa was my first lead show. I think gradual growth has always made me feel that the journey has been very nice. I have learned a lot and am still learning. It has been a nice good experience for me to start from being a one day, two-day character actor and to play the lead in a show.

What was the biggest turning point for you?

Of course, it has to be Piya Albelaa my first show as the lead. I did not even realize that I will play the lead role one day. I am happy that destiny had this in store for me. I got good grooming with this show. Ashish Sir my Director in Piya Albelaa was my mentor and he taught me all the nuances possible.

From a romantic show like Piya Albelaa to a show like Dadi Amma, how does it feel?

This show is a mixture of all things. It has romance, comedy and drama too. We can say that it is a full package. Viewers will slowly get to see the romantic angle developing in Dadi Amma. Yes, Piya Albelaa was a full-on romantic show with drama.

How is the bonding with your onscreen sister Anagha Bhosale?

You know, I don’t have a younger sister in real life. And she fulfils my desire to have one. I have an elder sister in real life. Anagha made me get the feel of being the elder sister (smiles). All of a sudden, I was the one teaching stuff to a younger girl like her, as to how to keep the room clean, to do things the right way etc.

We both are very opposite personalities. She is very fun-loving, full of life person. I am a quiet girl. Anagha is full-on energy even after pack up. It is good to have people who are lively around you.

If I ever get out of my comfort zone, I will never be able to perform well. I really do not know whether this is a plus point or a negative trait to have.

What about the boys Ankit Raizada and Abhishek Pathania?

I have never had such witty and funny co-actors like them. They make us laugh all the time. They are pranksters on the set. We enjoy with them.

Are you planning to get into the web platform?

Whatever the medium, it is important for actors to keep exploring. I have never got the opportunity to try the theatre too. If anything good comes my way, I will love to do theatre as well as the web. I have just kept my first foot into acting and there is a lot more to do.

Are you game to playing bold characters for the web?

If I ever get out of my comfort zone, I will never be able to perform well. I really do not know whether this is a plus point or a negative trait to have. But if I am not comfortable playing any character, I will better not do it. Yes, the bold characters are a total no for me.

I came into the industry with zero confidence, and now I am ready to try out anything that is new. You can believe in yourself only when you are confident.

Are you interested in reality shows?

I am a very curious and enthusiastic person. I will love to do anything that is new. That will be a new and nice experience for me.

What have been your learnings from the industry till now?

I think the confidence level that I have got is huge now. I came into the industry with zero confidence, and now I am ready to try out anything that is new. You can believe in yourself only when you are confident. I have got this level of confidence only after coming to this industry. I was a person who would never lift my hand to try out something new. This transition has motivated me to spring into action for anything that my heart wishes for. I cannot believe at times whether I am the same person who used to fear anything and everything.
