Indians are Bollywood-obsessed: Kritika Kamra

Well-known TV actor Kritika Kamra’s long-awaited dreams of shining on the big screen will soon be fulfilled. She has more-or-less finished shooting for a bold concept film in Ahmedabad.

“But there is no skin show. It is today’s kind of story, about ambitions, friendship and love. The first look should be out soon. Do watch out for it.”

She refused to give away any more details, saying,“Better that the production house makes the relevant announcements.”

Prior to this, Kritika had also tried her hand at films, but it had not worked out then.“It really was not my fault that three or four big-banner projects did not see light of the day due to various reasons. Having said that, in hindsight, I believe everything happens for a reason and, I am very glad that I will enter films courtesy this project, which really seems to be shaping up well.”

On film makers becoming more accepting of TV names, she says, “Seems so, as several of my compatriots have also moved into Tinsel Town. Conversely, many film stars are acting in TV as well. So both the mediums are fusing, as they rightly do in the West.” Kritika’s last small-screen outing was Chandrakanta, on Life OK.

“Let’s face it. Any actor worth his salt, be it TV or stage, would like to do films, for not only are some great films being made, but the reach is huge too. Indians are Bollywood-obsessed”. Kritika’s well-known TV assignments over the years have included Kitni Mohabbat Hai, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Reporters, etc.

For the moment, Kritika does not want to do TV, “Because, A, I have always been choosy and nothing exciting has come my way so far. And B, I will need to be free for the remaining shooting, patchwork and promotions of the above film.”

Coming to digital, Kritika says, “Although the format is good, I would wait for something juicy. Today, just about anybody who is somebody is making a beeline to web.”

Kritika has done her share of short films.“They happened before the current net boom. White Shirt was one of the best shorts of 2017. For me, net is all about creativity. I am very well aware that TV is much bigger in terms of money and fame than net for the moment, so it better be worth my while.”

When asked about the explosion of s*x on web, she says, “Everybody is trying to milk the absence of censors. And let’s face it. This kind of content also has its market. I personally have no problems with s*x on screen, as long as the storyboard justifies it. But it would really be great if we had a more diverse palette of web content as well.”
